Beginning Weaving Weekend

This is not a substitute for our week long class but an alternative for all of you with hectic schedules who want to take a comprehensive weaving class. Students will learn to plan and measure a scarf warp, warp a loom and weave their scarf the first day, finishing the ends on Saturday evening. Sunday will offer each student the opportunity to study and weave a sampler of different twills in a gamp arrangement. Your sampler will make a lovely wall hanging as well as a learning tool to refer back to many times.

Continuous Strand Weaving Method on Triangle, Square, or Rectangl

In this 3 days class students can complete a full 7-foot Triangle Shawl
using the simple, unique continuous-thread method. Or choose to learn a few
intermediate or advanced techniques, such as twill, leno lace and double
weave, plus color patterns such as log cabin, tartan plaids and color
blending, or create wearable and household textiles on the square or new
rectangle loom. Bring your own loom or rent one for the class ($15.00).

Japanese Braiding on the Takadai

The basic structure of the Takadai braids is plain and twill weave, the braids also come in double layer structure. The single layer braids are thinner, wider and because they are made on the bias more flexible than the Marudai braids. The workshop is about flexibility and as far as possible will be tailored to meet the needs of each student. Those with specific projects in mind may like to make contact with the instructor to discuss
their proposed plans. Equipment is not supplied for this class. Class limited to 12.

Tartans Class

The timeless beauty of traditional Scottish Tartans is so appealing, and
weaving tartan patterns is great fun. We will follow the development of
tartan patterning from a two color check through the variety of overchecks,
borders and added colors. In this round robin class, students will weave
large samples of a dozen or more traditional tartan patterns in fine wool.
The equally colorful History of Tartan will be told and instruction in
translating tartan setts into warp plans and finishing will be covered.

Weaving with Beads

This just might be the workshop to give you and your work a little boost or "bling"! Sharon will be teaching you how to add beads to scarves and shawls and share with you how she creates her beautiful woven and beaded neck pieces. Students will be shown hot to design and add beaded designs to their woven area of the scarf. Each person will weave on a prewarped loom of 8/2 variegated tencel. warps will be long enough for you to weave two beaded scarves or one scarf and a neckpiece. Yarns and beads will be provided for these projects. Class limited to 10
